Urban designers Basia van Rijt (BURA Urbanism), Marlies van der Maarel (gemeente Rotterdam), and landscape architect Jorrit Noordhuizen (NOHNIK) share their experiences on how to apply research by design within complex spatial issues. How does the co-creative method influence the design process? And how can it help to prepare a city for future water levels? We will discuss the value of research by design and show how the method, for both designers as well as (semi) public organizations, helps to focus on the challenges, to consider and connect the interests concerned, to organize support and to initiate new collaborations.
The presented projects were carried out within the framework of the Spatial Design Voucher Scheme, organized by the Creative Industries Fund and funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
