Presentation by Dirk Sijmons (landscape architect) of the research by design on the energy future of Zeeland. A program in collaboration with CBK Zeeland.
The presentation discusses four scenarios for Zeeland based on four positions towards the Anthropocene. The four-tier typology provides a useful navigational tool in the Anthropocene, hosting the views of politicians, environmentalists and philosophers. All four viewpoints are demonstrably present in society. We will have to embrace this plurality. The four worlds are made imaginable by miracle maps that capture the spatial expression of the scenario in question. In five scale steps, the eye jumps from the Sloehaven area, to Walcheren and the Westerschelde, to the Dutch coast, to northwestern Europe, and finally to the northern hemisphere. We provide the four worlds with flesh and blood by having ‘personae’ walking around in them reporting on their fates, giving us a glimpse into the feel of the worlds and the lives led there.
Prior to the lecture is the screening of the documentary Pop Down / Melt Up.
