The symposium of stichting TIJD (TIME foundation) is this year in line with the theme of the IABR IT’S ABOUT TIME.
The philosophy of Le Roy has a clear relation with time and that is not the only parallel with the theme of the IABR. In the year 1972, when the Club of Rome published their report ‘Limits to growth’, Louis Le Roy was honored with a special award by the Prince Bernhard fund of culture for a possible innovative breakthrough in ecology. He worked on a free landscape architecture which could adjust to cities as a variable contra-world.
What is the link between the vision he developed and the current themes, and in 50 years? On this afternoon we will travel through the years and hear from different perspectives how his philosophy, projects and experiments fit in this time:
Limits to growth, IT’S ABOUT TIME!
Key note speaker Bruno Notteboom (department Architecture, KU Leuven) will speak about the importance of Le Roy’s work for architecture and urban planning in the past and for challenges in the area of biodiversity and ecology in this era. Thereby, he will zoom into other projects in the Netherlands who were inspired by Le Roy and talk about new perspectives as a result of recent research.
Other speakers are:
Peter Veenstra (co-curator IABR), Heilien Tonckens (chairman TIME Foundation), Rob Hendriks (architect DAAD), Piet Vollaard (architect and city activist), Bert Looper (historian and writer), Hans van der Lans (biologist and ecologist).
Please note, this symposium will take place at Hof van de Koning in Heerenveen.
